BC Ministry of Aboriginal Relations & Reconciliation

Working Partner Alixe Knighton

Alixe is the Director of the Community Development Branch in the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation. The Branch partners with First Nations, Aboriginal organizations and others in innovative capacity building, economic development, social development and service delivery. This work is most effective when it involves large and diverse networks that are focused on the priorities of the First Nation and where it supports centres of change in First Nation communities. Projects have included: creating social service networks; initiating and supporting learning centres, youth engagement, and partnering in the Aph-cii-uk Initiative.

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development

Canada's economic and social well-being benefits from strong, self-sufficient Aboriginal and northern people and communities.

Our vision is a future in which First Nations, Inuit, Métis and northern communities are healthy, safe, self-sufficient and prosperous - a Canada where people make their own decisions, manage their own affairs and make strong contributions to the country as a whole.

INAC is involved in Ahp-cii-uk as an important approach to having external partners support First Nations communities in their desire to grow their collective social and human capital, so that communities become more resilient, and are increasingly able to effectively act in their own best interests. INAC wishes to support communities as they move along a community development continuum to self determination and sustainability.

Working Partner Colin Harivel

Colin Harivel's responsibilities at INAC have recently focused on support for First Nations undertaking comprehensive community planning (CCP), and on INAC BC Region's strategic planning, which includes identifying effective approaches to community-based and community-driven development. This work was preceded by 3 years in the economic development area in INAC. Colin's professional background in earth sciences has underpinned his years as a private consultant on land use and natural resources planning, and dispute resolution.
