The Aboriginal Leadership Initiative aims to identify and implement new ways to improve the quality of life for Aboriginal people and to enhance the relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal societies.

The Aboriginal Leadership Initiative aims to identify and implement new ways to improve the quality of life for Aboriginal people and to enhance the relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal societies.
Three Nuu-Chah-Nulth communities - Ahousaht, Tseshaht and Ehattesaht - have volunteered to engage in the Initiative. Two community action projects will unfold in each of the communities. One project is expected to focus primarily on economic development and the other on social development. A fund of $300,000 to be divided between the 3 communities will provide seed money to start the projects.
The NTC has embraced the Aboriginal Leadership Initiative as an important means of improving their relationship with government, forging new alliances with business leaders, and addressing priority needs within their communities.
This Initiative is a pilot project for social and economic development in First Nations. It is hoped its success will provide a model that can be used throughout Canada. As such, both Health Canada and the BC Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation are funding the Initiative.
